Aleixa Maria Freire
Aleixa is a freelance dance artist based in New York. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. While at Uarts Aleixa had the pleasure of studying with artists such as Meredith Glisson, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Curt Haworth, Jesse Zaritt, Katie Swords-Thurman, Niall Jones, and Lauren Bakst amongst others. She has performed in works by Sharon Eval, Andrea Miller/Gallim Dance, Netta Yerushalmy, Helen Simeneau, Sidra Bell, Mark Haim, Katie Swords-Thurman, and Jesse Zaritt. In addition to her undergraduate career, Aleixa has studied at a myriad of international institutes such as the P.A.R.T.S. School, the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, the Ailey School, The Joffery School, and the American Dance Festival. Most recently Aleixa performed in a new work by Emanuel Gat in the 37-Montpellier Danse Festival in Montpillier, France. She worked with Carmen Caceres DanceAction, as well as the projects of Inger Cooper, Molly Kennedy, and Caylee Shmizu. Since 2014 she has been creating and performing her own work which has been shown in Philadelphia and New York.
