Aviya (Assistant Director) is a performance artist exploring intersections between dance, autobiography, comedy, and Jewish ritual. Within her practice, she challenges herself to explore ritual and tradition in a contemporary, diasporic, queer, apocalypse-surviving, and anti-racist context. Her performance work lives in symbiosis with her teaching practice with young artists. In addition to her own work, Aviya has performed in collaboration with Carmen Caceres DanceAction, Yehuda Hyman’s Mystical Feet Company, and The New Shul, and she creates fantastical explorations of queer joy with Syd Franz.
